Wir haben mit dem Sänger der Californischen Band "No use for a name", die gerade auf Deutschland Tour sind, am 23.08.2000 mal ein bißchen am Telefon gequatscht. Und herausgekommen ist dieses kurze Interview...

Bumbanet: So, how are you today?

Tony: Fine, thankx.

Bumbanet: Tony, you, Rory, Matt and Dave are the members of NUFAN, right?

Tony: Yes.

Bumbanet: It's real confusing, because in previous days members left and again new ones joined. What's the deal about all that?

Tony: Well, Dave is in the band for a year now, and Chris left 4 years ago to join the Foo Fighters. Yeah, that's it.

Bumbanet: How did you guys get into No Use? You've been there for a long time now, and all of you joined in different times.

Tony: Well, me and Rory started at the same time, about 5 years after the band was formed. Matt joined, because we just needed a bass player, and Dave, because we needed a guitar player. (He laughs out loud)

Bumbanet: "More Betterness" is your latest record and again it's on FAT WRECK CHORDS. You've been at FWC for a long time now. Are you satisfied with that record company?

Tony: Yeah!!! I mean, it's good!

Bumbanet: So you have a right of co-determination?

Tony: Yeah, sure. We do whatever we want.

Bumbanet: Why did you call your record to date "More Betterness"?

Tony: It's a joke!!! You know, it's bad english. We thought it was funny, but it it's not.

Bumbanet: (Again Mr. Sly starts laughing. Is that guy tryin to play with me??? Nevermind...) How would you describe this album, and how does it differ from your other records?

Tony: It's got more melody. It's definitly a change, because the record before was faster. And this one is a little bit slower. It's lyricly better and the recording is just well. The band is very happy with it.

Bumbanet: Is it right, that you've recorded your album "Daily Grind" in only 5 days?

Tony: Yes.

Bumbanet: Oh, that was a quick one right there.

Tony: Ha,ha, yes it was.

Bumbanet: Tony, was it for sure that you were gonna do the vocals, after Chris Dodge had left the band?

Tony: Yeah. I was forced to do it after he left!!!(ha,ha) Somebody had to sing, and it was me or it wasn't. It just worked out that way.

Bumbanet: Who is writing the music and the lyrics?

Tony: Me!!!

Bumbanet: Before I forget, what did you think of your gig at the BIZARRE?

Tony: It was great. It was full, a few thousand people watchin us. It's really nice to see the reception in Germany. We were very happy!

Bumbanet: And now some personal questions...

Tony : Okay.

Bumbanet: What's your favorite NO USE song?

Tony: Room 19! (Anmerkung der Schluss-Redaktion: Das ist auch unserer!)

Bumbanet: What bands do you like personally?

Tony: Oh, that's hard to say. Tons of different stuff. There's Slayer for example, I like jazz too!! The range's various!

Bumbanet: What was the last record you've bought?

Tony: Uhmm, what was it??? (Tony thinks for a while, and he thinks.......)
Oh, the band is called "Tall dwarves".

Bumbanet: Do you guys have any hobbies besides music?

Tony: Rory surfs and skates, I play soccer, Matt works on cars and Dave, well Dave smokes pott!

Bumbanet: Are you supporting any unknown bands?

Tony: Well, I mean there are lots of bands that I like. I think they're all signed though. There are some local bands that are good, but no1 really knows them.

Bumbanet: Okay, so what would you like to say to young and inexperienced musicians?

Tony: Keep on doin' that. Keep takin' lessons.

Bumbanet: Just one more question to go! Do you guys have anything new comin' out?

Tony: Not soon. But we're workin' on it.

Bumbanet: Thankx very much for the interview.

Tony : O.k. Thankx.

Bumbanet: Hope you have a great time in Germany.

Tony : Yeah, thankx. We will!!!
